A wonderful weekend of celebration, friendship and fundraising

Posted on: April 21st, 2011 by Erin Kieper

It was great to return to the Midwest to see friends and family and participate in the Shades of Pink Foundation’s annual Walk at the Zoo. The day before I traveled my Dad made the trek to Cleveland Clinic for his bi-annual visit to his oncologist. I have to admit I am always on edge when Dad undergoes these scans and anxiously await his phone calls hoping the good news will continue. Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 bladder cancer nearly 4 years ago and he continues to defy the odds and thrive. It would be a trip of celebration for our family.

Saturday morning my friend, her daughter and I made our way to the zoo for the walk while the rain pummeled the tent. The weather couldn’t dampen the spirits of the huge crowd and the participants walked the zoo and raised money for those needing financial help while undergoing treatment for breast cancer. The tent was energized by Dr Pamela Benitez and the  Shades of Pink team who work tirelessly to help those facing breast cancer in the Detroit area. Check out the Shades of Pink website to learn more and see the pictures from the walk. Congratulations to all who attended and contributed to this fundraiser.

The day was a huge success for Shades of Pink and Luna’s Landing was thrilled to be a part of the event. We donated 10% of our sales to Shades of Pink and can’t wait to come back next year.

Thanks to my friends and family for a wonderful weekend! Together we do make a difference for those needing help along the way. Rain or shine, every day brings something good for all of us.

Coming together for Cancer Lifeline’s Patient Assistance Fund

Posted on: August 16th, 2010 by Erin Kieper

Last week we raised money and awareness for Cancer Lifeline’s Patient Assistance Fund and had a great time together. Awesome jewelry, decadent desserts and a lovely group of women pulling together to help those fighting cancer.

Cancer Lifeline’s Patient Assistance Fund helps patients who find themselves in need of help while battling cancer.

Special thanks to:

Liz Grant from Silpada Designs. Liz brought her fabulous jewelry and showcased Silpada’s designs and taught us how to group items to look polished and hip. Liz also donated 30% of her evening sales to the Patient Assistance Fund! The collection is unique, high quality silver with lovely combinations of stones and elements to make your wardrobe pop. Check out what we saw  at: www.mysilpada.com/lizgrant

Our delicious peach/blueberry torte and decadent flour-less chocolate cake were donated by Cameron Catering. Thank you Michel and Suzanne for providing these fabulous treats for our evening. You guys are so generous and your food is amazing! Thank you! If you have an upcoming event or dinner party to prepare for, think Cameron Catering. Their website is: http://www.cameroncatering.com/

Luna’s Landing also showcased a few new pieces which will come to the website soon. Scrabble tile charms and new earring designs were popular amongst our guests.  The resin rings are also adorning many more fingers today. We donated 10% of our sales to the Patient Assistance Fund too.

Reflecting on the party brings a smile to my face and warmth to my heart. The generosity and compassion was palpable and the good that comes of an evening of community  is what makes a difference for those facing life’s challenges today. We won’t make the news but I know that together we can touch lives.

Thanks to everyone who joined us. Until next time.

Luna’s Landing has morphed again!

Thanks everyone for your feedback on our website. We continue to strive to improve it and make it more user friendly. We think we finally nailed it. We have reduced the number of pages and have links embedded throughout the pages to easily navigate around. We hope you like what you see. We are also adding more images of products to the store. It truly is a work in progress and a great learning experience.

You may need to refresh or reload the home page to see the changes. Let us know what you think. In the coming days we will be adding resources to the blog for easy reference. Check back often.

Rocket Girl, signing off.

Komen Expo & Race for the Cure Update

Posted on: June 7th, 2010 by Erin Kieper

Luna’s Landing participated in the first Komen Expo on Saturday and met a lot of wonderful people picking up their Race t-shirts and visiting the exhibits. It was a fun day even though the sun was shining for the first time in weeks and we were inside the exhibition hall. We raised money for Young Survival Coalition and Cancer Lifeline and met many survivors and friends who were gearing up for the Race on Sunday. Darlene Fanus was the lucky raffle winner!

Rain didn’t dampen the enthusiasm or participation for the Race for the Cure. The rivers of pink took over the Seattle Center and race course for a memorable day and the early count is over $1 million dollars raised for Komen! Way to go Seattle.

My friend Tammie volunteered at the Expo and the Tribute Tent where participants placed pictures and names on a wall in honor and celebration of their loved ones touched by breast cancer. Tammie is a vibrant survivor and also a member of the Seattle YSC Affiliate. She recently cut her curly locks and donated the hair to a program to make wigs for others going through treatment. Way to go Tammie!
